The year was 2005. My good friend and creative director, Bob Liljenwall, encouraged me to start a personal newsletter. He felt that I should share the stories of my travels, insights into the business world, my clients, memorable experiences, my life in Hawaii, the culture and the spirit of ​‘Aloha.’

We called it, ​‘The EDDY Line,’ and​ e-mailed it to over 1000 colleagues and friends across the country. Well, it grew and kept on growing. A few years later I was encouraged by family and friends to start writing a book. “A book, how do I do that?” I said.

The Spring of 2010 was the beginning of a challenging, yet, rewarding learning process of writing a book. Carol Nicholson, a dear friend, introduced me to Ms. Sarah Williams, her writing coach who lived in Oxford, England, and Sarah introduced me to the process and discipline of writing. Who knew?

The next three years consisted of time-consuming research, gathering and editing photos, documents of family history, interviewing family members, and recollecting my memories. Towards the end of writing my manuscript, I was very fortunate to be introduced to an accomplished book editor, Ms. Jeanne McCafferty. Jeanne liked my manuscript and I liked her, so I hired her, and together, we completed my book.

“Loves, Life & Laughter,” the highly enjoyable journey of B​ill ‘Aloha’ Eddy was self-published three years later in 2013. It is a loosely structured autobiography about an American boy (me) and his journey through life, and my journey continues.

I’m still writing ‘​The EDDY Line’ a​bout exceptional and thoughtful people, surf culture, retail innovation, architecture, and memorable places. For some reason, people still enjoy reading what I have to say, and that is rewarding and puts a big smile on my face.

We love to share stories and provide motivation, encouragement, and support for young people of all ages, and emphasize,’Attitude is everything in Life.’

One of our stories is about dealing with adversity and disappointments in life and ways to overcome them, and illustrate the challenging steps that we took to do so.

We may ask you, “Are you you happy with your work, and what you do?“ Or ask, “What is it that makes you happy?”or,”What do you enjoy doing,” and, “Are you afraid to try something new?”

Maybe you have a fear of failure and avoid making changes in your life and avoid taking risks. Why? Because the decisions you make may not be the right ones for you, but it is so important to recognize and understand,that it is,’OK to fail’. It’s almost inevitable, but just don’t quit, because that is not an option.

We learn from a demoralizing failure, and hopefully, become stronger, allowing us an opportunity to take new risks, and explore new paths.” We know, because we’ve been there.

So many young people have yet to find a passion or a direction in their lives, so we encourage them by saying, “It’s OK if you haven’t found your passion yet, but you will, so be curious and keep learning because your curiosity will lead you to new doors and inspiring opportunities.

Remember, ‘Attitude is everything in life.’
